The ABCs of Kid’s Markets in 3 Steps
The very basics are right here:
- Sign up and pay for your booth space (register button above).
- Read the Welcome email with instructions, including what to bring and how to set up.
- Arrive at the market on time and be ready to sell, win awards and gain skills!
What Is It Actually Like?
Imagine a buzzing indoor marketplace filled with kids proudly running their own businesses — greeting customers, sharing stories behind their products, making sales, networking, and even showing off their newest creations to each other.
Parents typically look around wide-eyed thinking, “Wow… my kid is really doing this.”
Every market includes:
-
A welcoming community where kids cheer on other kids
-
Mentors, judges, and real local business owners walking through the aisles
-
Photo stations and free headshots
-
Awards that recognize creativity, kindness, bravery, presentation, customer service, and innovation
-
An atmosphere of joy, independence, and I-can-totally-do-this energy
Kids leave with empty tables (the good kind), new friendships, proud hearts, and ideas for what to do next.
What Do Kidpreneurs Actually Have to Do?
The VKZ Kidpreneur Program is designed so kids do the work, and adults support the growth.
Kidpreneurs are expected to:
-
Create the product or service they want to sell
-
Set up their table (we guide them!)
-
Price their items
-
Greet customers with confidence
-
Handle simple transactions
-
Keep their space tidy
-
Practice customer service skills
-
Share their business story
Parents help with:
-
Getting them there
-
Making sure they have change, bags, or payment options
-
Coaching them before the market
-
Not stepping in to take over the table (this is the hardest part 😄)
How Do You Prepare?
Great news! You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Here’s your quick start plan:
1. Pick Your Product or Service
This could be:
-
Crafts
-
Art
-
Food items (NO FOOD AT FANTASTIC INDOOR SWAP MEET SHOWS)
-
Jewelry
-
Slime
-
Books they wrote
-
Tutoring or mini-lessons
-
Digital products
-
Stickers
-
Custom décor
-
Anything kid-made and kid-run
2. Make Enough Inventory
We recommend prepping 20–40 items for your first market.
Not sure? Bring samples and take custom orders!
3. Make a Simple Sign
Even a handwritten poster works.
Kids can include:
-
Business name
-
Prices
-
A quick mission statement
-
Their logo or artwork
4. Practice Your Pitch
We teach this, but kids should be able to answer:
-
“What do you sell?”
-
“How much is it?”
-
“Why did you start this business?”
5. Pack the Extras
A first-timer’s checklist:
-
Tablecloth
-
Water bottle
-
Bags for customers
-
Small bills for change
-
Organized display bins
-
Tape, scissors
-
Hand sanitizer
-
Venmo/QR code if you have it
6. Show Up Ready to Shine
We take care of the environment — music, mentorship, judges, community.
You bring the magic.

What Are the REAL Benefits?
Let’s be honest — the money is fun. Kids love watching their hard work turn into real dollars.
But the true benefits run deeper:
Confidence
Kids learn to talk to adults, answer questions, and take pride in their work.
Financial Literacy
Budgeting, pricing, making change, ROI — they learn all of it, in real time.
Responsibility
They show up prepared, run their space, and feel the ownership that comes with it.
Creativity
New ideas bloom at every market. What starts as a slime table often becomes a business plan.
Friendships
Kidpreneurs meet other kids who are just like them — creative, curious, ambitious.
Leadership
We give older or returning kidpreneurs opportunities to help younger ones.
Mentorship From Real Business Owners
Each market includes “special guest judges” — CEOs, creators, restaurant owners, artists, nonprofit leaders — who offer real feedback and encouragement.
Community
VKZ is a big family. And once you’re in it, you’ll feel that quickly.
