Many kids struggle with social skills. That’s how we found Sport-Social a few years ago after a few friends highly recommended it. Our skepticism faded from the moment our kiddo fist-bumped his first hello with a new cool friend in the indoor skate park.
“Our students learn in a supportive, motivating environment where successes are celebrated,” Devitt said. “We believe that every child wants to know how to confidently make friends and communicate clearly.”
Sport-Social’s specialized programs combine sports with real-world interactions with kids in their age range under the nurturing supervision of instructors who recognize when a child is advancing or needs a little natural guidance.
What Parents Say about Sport-Social
Sport-Social is known by a large group of local parents as a safe space for their child to gain confidence and learn the value of being a good friend. We, like many other parents we ran into, wish we had found it sooner. Our twins were about 9 when we finally took a good friend’s advice and booked an appointment to see if Sport-Social was a good fit.
Within the first few minutes, it was obvious that this was a safe space based on our kid’s immediate response of wide eyes and open arms. They didn’t know what to do first! The initial shyness wore off with the help of instructors who greeted each child individually with a relaxed attitude. Trained instructors help each child to feel included, no matter their skill level. They talk to each child as they would a friend, putting them at ease and asking them to simply come play.
Sport-Social creates an atmosphere of sharing and kindness from the start that continues as they wander through the indoor skate park.
Friendships and Core Values for Kids
Over the last few years, many kids have missed out on the regular social interactions we often take for granted. Park days and casual interactions offer an opportunity to grow the skills kids need to go out in the world with self-confidence
What is unique about Sport-Social is kids learn and practice skills while engaged in sports activities, dipping into art projects, engaging with kids with the same gaming interests or delving into music with a spin on the drums, guitar or keyboard.
“Our instructors work with small, flexible, individualized groups with very high or 1:1 instructor-to-student ratios,” he said. We believe that the most effective social and behavioral instruction comes from proactive instructors trained and experienced in the principles of behaviors.”
This immersive program particularly helps kids who may feel overstimulated and socially anxious upon re-entering their school setting or if they are experiencing increased separation anxiety being away from the family and home they had become accustomed to being with so much.
“We teach our students the social skills, emotional maturity, and positive behaviors that will equip them to communicate effectively,” Devitt said. “This self-discovery will enable our students to make new friends, play appropriately with old ones, and interact with adults in their communities.”
