I have a young family. Our boys are wild, energetic and curious. Our life has taken many strange and beautiful turns, one of which has caused us to move far from our families and support systems. Early on, we were committed to building the kind of small-town community our children deserve and will take direct control of their education, no matter what life throws our way. As we looked around at our friends, we saw how difficult it can be to make this a reality. Some lived in big cities where the chaos felt isolating. Others had moved to a new area and did not know where to start. This observation led to the idea for BaseCampEd.

Our mission is to empower families by connecting parents with like-minded communities and dedicated teachers based on shared interests, specific needs, and geographic proximity. With this in mind, we created a platform that enables parents to create supportive groups, seamlessly schedule their children’s activities, and communicate directly with other parents. In this way, we hope to a foster a collaborative and enriching educational experience for every child. In order for BaseCampEd to achieve its goals, it had to answer three main questions:
1. How do you best allow parents to create the personalized community they require?
2. How do you best allow parents to organize their hectic schedules?
3. How do you create a safe environment for families?
Community
BaseCamped is intended to support a variety of different families, whether they homeschool their children, are curious about it, or simply want to build extracurricular based groups. It also gives teachers and coaches the ability to create profiles and list their credentials. Parents can use this tool as a way to supplement their children’s education with other subjects and extracurricular activities. This feature is useful for any parent that is looking to take their children’s interests and activities to the next level! After creating a profile, parents are able to filter searches for other families based on geographical location, interests, and age of children.
Organization
There are other great features to BaseCampEd. There is an option to create public and private groups. Public groups are intended to focus on nationwide networking for parents sharing similar experiences, follow special curriculums or facing common challenges. Private groups are intended for location-based co-ops and scheduling local extracurricular activities. Additionally, BaseCampEd allows you to stay organized with your family’s busy schedule using the calendar. You can add personal items and also manage the events in your surrounding area.
Safety
At BaseCampEd, we are committed to ensuring the app is safe and secure for our families. We do not do any geo-location tracking of our users, instead utilizing zip codes. To protect the privacy of children, parents will not include the names, pictures, or specific birthday of their children. Also, users are only allowed to message others after both parties have agreed to connect. We will work everyday to update and improve our practices. We are committed to being proactive and responsive to the needs of this great community.
