The Case of the Disappearing Veggies at Rose Creek Farm
It was a bright summer morning at Rose Creek Farm, and everyone was getting ready for the weekly harvest. Volunteers were washing bins, the greenhouse team was checking irrigation lines, and the market baskets were almost full.
But then… someone noticed that an entire row of produce was missing!
The squash was gone. The radishes? Nowhere to be seen. Even the newly ripened tomatoes had vanished. Who could have taken the veggies—and why?
You’ve been invited to step in as a Junior Farm Detective to help the team solve The Case of the Disappearing Veggies!
Clues Around the Farm:
-
The Wheelbarrow Clue
Near the barn, a wheelbarrow was found with muddy tracks leading toward the edge of the field… but then the trail disappears! -
The Crumpled Note
In the greenhouse, someone found a paper tucked under a watering can. It read:
“Had to make it right. Didn’t mean to sneak—just needed a little help.” -
The Seedling Surprise
By the compost pile, a few scattered squash seeds and one half-buried radish were discovered. -
The Empty Basket
A produce delivery basket meant for a local chef was sitting near the kitchen area—emptied and cleaned, as if someone used it for something else.
Suspects on the Farm:
-
Lina, the Trainee: She’s new to the farm and learning fast. She loves vegetables and has been practicing basket packing—but seemed nervous today.
-
Mr. Tomás, the Greenhouse Supervisor: He usually works early shifts and always double-checks the harvest counts. He said he noticed “someone moving quickly” near the field after hours.
-
Milo the Goat: He’s adorable, sneaky, and once chewed through a market list. Could Milo be behind the missing veggies?
-
Chef Emery: Picks up produce weekly for a refugee-run cooking class downtown. Said they arrived this morning but couldn’t find their order… or anyone to ask.
How to Solve the Mystery:
-
Think through the clues: Who might have written the note? Who would know how to clean and carry a basket?
-
Look at the timeline: Who was nearby when the veggies went missing?
-
Consider motives: Was it a mistake, or someone trying to help?
